Exceptional Taste
Kagoshima Prefecture has one of the biggest livestock
industries in Japan. It is especially well known for its production of
Japanese Black Cattle, which is said to be distinguished by the
superior quality of its meat. 18.3 percent of all black cattle in Japan
are raised in Kagoshima, making Kagoshima the largest producer in Japan
(as of Feb. 1, 2008). They are raised all over the prefecture, with
heavy concentration in the Sou, Kimotsuki, Oshima, Aira and Satsuma
area. Kagoshima Black Beef is highly regarded as a safe, secure, and
delicious product.
Associated Facilities
The Kagoshima Prefectural Livestock laboratories are
researching and developing ways to provide affordable, delicious and
safe meat for consumers to answer the increasing competition from both
domestic and international suppliers. They are researching ways to
increase productivity, improve the quality of the livestock while
maintaining environmental standards to provide consumers with cheap,
delicious and most importantly, safe beef. In addition, the Kagoshima
Prefectural Cattle Breeding Development Institute is conducting
bio-technical research aimed at improving beef at the genetic level
through various methods such as embryo transfer. Through such methods,
superior sires have been produced, increasing the quality of the
breeding stock.
